Sorry about the mess…
I’m sorry if I managed to ruin anyone’s eyesight within the last week. I am still trying to get this blog to look halfway decent. Whoever thought I’d spend this much time just trying to get a background to appear? I also apologize about the links, I am still getting organized, they’re mostly place holders right now.
Fissure is coming along nicely, despite my apparent inability to code a blog. I’m also trying to find a good way to actually host the stories. One of my main issues I am having right now is how exactly to use technology in the story. Should everything be cutting edge yet with the usual Steampunk motif? Or should it vary; based on character, setting, and storyline? I prefer the latter to the former honestly, but one cannot resist a good amount of cogs, gears, and flying machines, right?
I am aiming for a period that fits within Steampunk and Dieselpunk, that should make more room for different concepts.
Hopefully I will have some concept sketches (and character descriptions) up by the middle of this week.
About Fissure
I am still working on getting this blog looking halfway decent, so sorry if it still looks weird.
Meanwhile, let’s go more into “Fissure”.
What is the meaning of the word “Fissure”? Well, I’m not trying to sound too pretentious, but I did actually look it up in the thesaurus (actually it sounds fun to act like I’m important). I didn’t want to be too obvious on the meaning of the title, so I decided to avoid titles like “Revelation”. I thought “Fissure” worked nicely, it had me thinking of a cracking facade.
The premise of “Fissure” works around the idea that the sort of worlds that incorporate the Steampunk aesthetic are theoretically “Utopias”. These are worlds where science has achieved the impossible, and where many of the limits of that time period are nonexistent. But what was the price to get things the way they were, and what depths will people go to keep it that way? I am hoping that it is an interesting take on the Steampunk genre.
The characters in Fissure are still being developed, so I should have some updates with them soon.
Allow me to Introduce Myself…
Ah, the wonderful world of blogging! This is something I am very new to, so forgive any awkward phrasing you’ll likely see.
This will be the place where I will be posting updates for the Fissure universe, answering any questions, and talking about anything else that catches my fancy.
I suppose I should start with a little bit about myself and Fissure. I am a digital artist who focuses on fictional characters. I have a variety of interests, many of those relating to video games, comic books, and history (among other things).
Fissure is a project that I have been putting together since 2009, though at the time it looked very different. Originally it was called “Deed” and it was the story of a group of characters who were deconstructing the idea of a supergroup, with a Steampunk setting. Currently, it has expanded to encompass a deconstruction of the Steampunk “utopia” and the idea that a “simpler time” would in fact be a “better time”. The current Fissure will involve a number of characters from many different walks of life, uncovering the true nature of their world at the cost of their soul, sanity, and even lives.
